Who needs a MC/USDOT Number?
Transportation Companies that operate commercial vehicles and haul Cargo or transporting passengers, Haul Hazardous materials or Cargo that requires safety permit(s) in interstate commerce must be registered with FMCSA and must have a MC Number also known as Operating Authority and USDOT Number.
The MC Number is a unique number, also Known as Operating Authority is a Letter issued by DOT Authorizing the Carrier on operate in interstate. USDOT Number is also a unique identifier issued by FMCSA, which is used to monitor a company’s safety information acquired and used during compliance audits, reviews, crash investigations, and inspections.
Some states apart from Federal regulations require intrastate commercial motor vehicle registrants to get a USDOT Number.
